पंजाब के बठिंडा सेना स्टेशन में पिछले सप्ताह चार जवानों की मौत का मामला सुलझा लिया गया है और आरंभिक जांच में यह पता चला है कि सेना के संतरी ने ही अपने चार सहयोगियों की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी थी।
आरोपी गनर देसाई मोहन को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया है और वह अभी पुलिस की हिरासत में है। सेना की दक्षिण पश्चिमी मुख्यालय कमान ने सोमवार को एक वक्तव्य जारी कर कहा कि गत 12 अप्रैल को देसाई मोहन ने ही अपने चार सहयोगियों की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी थी।
गहन पूछताछ के दौरान देसाई मोहन ने माना है कि उसने इन्सास राइफल चुराई थी और उसका इस्तेमाल अपने चार सहयोगियों को मारने के लिए किया था। आरंभिक पूछताछ में पता चला है कि वह साथियों द्वारा शारीरिक उत्पीडऩ किए जाने से गुस्से में था।
अपने कबूलनामे में देसाई मोहन ने माना है कि उसने नौ अप्रैल को भरी हुई मैगजीन के साथ राइफल चुराई थी और फिर उसे छिपा दिया था। गत 12 अप्रैल को जब वह संतरी की ड्यूटी पर था, तो राइफल ले आया और पहली मंजिल पर सो रहे चारों जवानों को गोली मारी थी।
इसके बाद उसने राइफल को सीवेज पिट में डाल दिया था, जिसे बरामद कर लिया गया है। देसाई मोहन ने 12 अप्रैल को प्राथमिकी दर्ज कराते समय कहा था कि उसने सिविल कपड़ों में दो लोगों को राइफल और कुल्हाड़ी लेकर जाते हुए देखा था।
उसने यह बयान जांच एजेंसियों को गुमराह करने के लिए दिया था। वह फिलहाल पुलिस हिरासत में है और उससे पूछताछ की जा रही है। सेना ने दोहराया है कि इस मामले में आतंकवादी हमले की कोई गुंजाइश नहीं है, जैसी अटकलबाजी कुछ मीडिया रिपोर्टों में की गई थी।

The case of the death of four jawans at Punjab’s Bathinda army station last week has been solved and preliminary probe has revealed that it was the army sentry who shot dead his four colleagues.
The accused Gunner Desai Mohan has been arrested and is currently in police custody. The Army’s South Western Headquarters Command issued a statement on Monday saying that on April 12, it was Desai Mohan who had shot dead four of his colleagues.
During intense interrogation Desai Mohan confessed that he had stolen the INSAS rifle and used it to kill his four associates. Initial inquiry revealed that he was angry after being physically assaulted by his colleagues.
In his confession, Desai Mohan admitted that he had stolen the rifle with the magazine loaded on April 9 and then hid it. On April 12 last, when he was on sentry duty, he brought a rifle and shot the four jawans sleeping on the first floor.
He then dumped the rifle in the sewage pit, which has been recovered. Desai Mohan, while registering the FIR on April 12, had said that he had seen two men in civilian clothes carrying a rifle and an axe.
He gave this statement to mislead the investigating agencies. He is currently in police custody and is being interrogated. The Army has reiterated that there is no scope for a terrorist attack in this case, as was being speculated in some media reports.
